Some portrait sessions unfold in a single afternoon. Others, like this one, evolve over years—layered with growth, memories, and the kind of trust that only comes from photographing a family again and again.
This family invited me to document their connection across two sessions: a sun-soaked beach shoot in Asbury Park in June 2022, and a vibrant fall session two years later at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken. Together, the portraits tell a story not just of how children grow and families change, but of how timeless love can feel in every season.
The beach has its own kind of magic. The sound of waves, the golden light, the way everything feels a little more relaxed. In 2022, we met on the sand in Asbury Park. The kids—teenagers and younger—kicked off their shoes and settled into the rhythm of the shoreline.
One of the girls in these portraits holds a special place in my heart. I’ve been photographing her since she was just six months old—the first baby I ever photographed professionally. Since then, I’ve captured her Bat Mitzvah, and her sister’s, too. It’s been an honor to document these milestones and watch her grow into the young woman she is today.
The littlest girl at the beach isn’t family by birth, but by heart. A close family friend, she fit right in—proof that portraits can be just as much about the people you choose as the ones you're connected to.
There was one moment in particular that stood out. As we wrapped up on the pier, I noticed something just as the light shifted—a quiet, powerful image of the dad standing alone on the jetty. I’m so glad I took that shot. It felt like a full-circle moment, grounding the session in stillness after so much joy and movement.
Fast forward to fall 2024. This time, we met on the tree-lined paths of the Stevens Institute of Technology campus in Hoboken. The setting was entirely different—cooler air, layers of fall color, a more urban energy—but the warmth between them was exactly the same.
What I love most about returning to photograph families over the years is seeing how their dynamic deepens. The clothes change. The settings change. But the connection—the real reason we’re taking portraits—stays strong.
Whether it’s a breezy summer afternoon on the Jersey Shore or a crisp fall day under changing leaves, there’s always beauty in preserving the moment you’re in.
Each season tells a different story—light, mood, and energy shift in ways that make your portraits uniquely yours. If you’re thinking about booking a family session this year, consider how your story can grow with the seasons.
I’m available for Destination Portrait Sessions and would love to photograph your vacation memories wherever they unfold. Let’s capture the moments that matter—no matter where you are.
