Are you searching for a creative and enriching summer experience for your child? Look no further than Miss Marie’s Summer Photo Camp, a hands-on photography camp in Hoboken designed especially for kids ages 9–12.
Hosted at the vibrant Monroe Center for the Arts, this one-of-a-kind Hoboken photo camp offers a joyful and educational way for children to explore the world through the lens of a camera.
This summer, I launched my very first children’s photography camp in Hoboken with Marie Papp Photography—and what an inspiring experience it turned out to be! As a Hoboken Photographer, it was so rewarding to see young students discover creativity through the camera while building confidence in their artistic abilities.
I intentionally kept the groups small, with just four students per session (though I can accommodate up to six). This gave me the chance to connect with each child individually, guide them at their own pace, and ensure the experience felt truly hands-on.
With my youngest group, we focused on the basics of photography: how to hold a camera properly, how to find focus, and simple rules of composition. Even though their smaller hands sometimes made handling certain cameras a bit tricky, their enthusiasm and curiosity made every moment worth it. Their excitement reminded me just how magical photography can be when you’re discovering it for the first time.
The older group came ready to dive deeper. Many brought cameras with manual settings, which gave us the opportunity to go beyond the basics and learn the exposure triangle—aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. On the final day, we staged a professional-style photo shoot, where each camper rotated through real industry roles: stylist, digital tech, assistant with a reflector, and photographer.
They loved the chance to step into these jobs and see what it feels like to be part of a photography team. We also ventured outdoors for photojournalism challenges, giving them the chance to see like reporters and tell stories through their images. Watching their creativity and confidence bloom was an incredible experience for me as both a photographer and a teacher.
Whether it’s a summer photography camp or a day-off photography camp held in Hoboken, kids from Hoboken, Jersey City, and the surrounding areas are invited to join. Programs by Marie Papp Photography offer more than just the skill of taking pictures—they teach kids to see the world in new and creative ways.
At camp, kids practice:

In a world saturated with selfies and snapshots, Miss Marie’s camp teaches kids how to truly see and capture beauty with purpose and creativity. Each week features a different theme, ensuring that campers stay engaged, inspired, and challenged.
